Hello again bloggies š
How is your weekend going? We had such a lovely day out-and-about yesterday – which I shall share a little with you in a mo – but first, here are today’s cards.
Yes, two again today, both to join in with the new DCM challenge to make a card with a birdie.
Here’s my first:
Just a speedy CAS one, to take advantage of the cutie-pie owl sticker that I mentioned earlier this week! I think the DCM gang must have known I was trying to come up with the perfect card for this little guy when they came up with their theme š
The clouds paper is from the ‘Fine & Dandy’ 6×6 pad by My Mind’s Eye. The ‘Hoo’s the Cutest’ sentiment is a die-cut that was free with a magazine. That magazine is no longer published sadly.
Cute card though.
This next one was one I was determined to make using only scraps! Yay for a card that uses up scraps! I need to do more of these…
Assorted layering bits… sentiment made with random alpha rub-ons… stray buttons that were lying around on my craft desk… the cute bird die-cut was actually left-over from Christmas card crafting – I think he’s meant to be a funny robin š
Then inside the card I wrote… “It’s your birthday!” to complete the sentiment.
Hope the DCM girls like my cards. I’m a bird-a-holic after all, so this was a fun challenge for me š
So I thought I’d share a couple of pics too from our outing yesterday, which was so lovely. To be out in the sunshine and exploring a new place we haven’t been before… Taking the sea air… Followed by a gorgeous pub lunch… Yum.
We were at a place called Brean Down, which is a headland not far from the seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare.
At the end of the headland there is a fort. There has been some kind of settlement here since the Iron Age apparently, but this fort was built in the 1860’s as defence against French invasion. Then used again and expanded in WW2.
The whole headland is now owned by the National Trust.
I love geological features like this were you can see the tilt of the earth and the levels of different rock strata are exposed. Fascinating.
The mini building at the end housed a searchlight to look out to sea in WW2, and the funny rails that run out also in the direction of the sea are a relic from when there were ‘experiments’ into some kind of launch for a ‘bouncing bomb’.
History tells that it just plopped off the end, with launch pad still attached and caused a whole bunch of damage. Some things just never get off the ground (no
pun intended!)
Delicious lunch (including dessert heaven) at The Ship & Castle on the way home…
Totally lovely. What have you been up to this weekend? Good stuff I hope!
Byeee, Rx

Aww, such a sweet cared, love that cute li’l owl!
Well, Ruth, it seems like you and I have a lot more in common than cardmaking! I have been to Brean a couple of times with my husband, and have a fascination for earthworks too! I have just ironed for two hours whilst watching my hero, Tony Robinson aka ‘Baldrick’ on a Time Team special and a repeat Time team i had taped from last week! I just love all that stuff.
Now, I have to nusrse some sunburn, as I had a little sit in the sun earlier, and have a one sided tan lol! xx
Love this Pauline! Time team is fun š
And we have even more in common than you think, as I managed to catch the sun whilst out on our walk!!! My arms are feeling a bit pink š Hope you aren’t too sore with it!
